Job description

We are recruiting for a motivated and flexible individual to join the Internal Audit function as a Secretary to support our Audit Directors.

You’ll have strong experience working within a similar role at this level, be highly organised and able to work well under pressure with exceptional attention to detail. This role is ideal for a proactive, driven, and adaptable individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can confidently navigate challenges with a forward-thinking approach.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at our London office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

This is a 12 month Fixed-Term Contract.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

What you’ll be doing

You will use your initiative and organisation skills to perform diary management, including the scheduling of internal and business stakeholder meetings, booking rooms and equipment, and making sure all relevant papers are collated / distributed on time. You’ll be booking travel arrangements and hotel accommodation for the Audit Directors as well as providing phone, holiday and minute taking cover. You’ll also provide cover for the Personal Assistant to the Leader of the Audit Function and the other Secretary when required as well as ad-hoc administrative / project work to support the function. For the time in the office the administrative support you’ll provide will include collating printing, and the collection and escorting of external guests.

The role also supports the Audit Leadership Team during their monthly meetings and co-ordinates the twice weekly Opinion Panel, by following up with the teams to manage the inclusion of audit reports in a timely fashion.

Using your interpersonal skills, you will develop and maintain good working relationships with key internal and external contacts.

You may be directly involved in initiatives to drive improvement of Internal Audit’s practices.

About you
  • Recent experience in secretarial or administrative roles supporting senior stakeholders in a financial services environment or similar.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint, with a solid understanding of Excel.
  • Strong ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Clear, confident communication skills, both written and verbal; you'll be building relationships with stakeholders across the business and assisting with the collation of documentation.
  • Proven initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement and solving problems proactively.
  • A collaborative team player who actively contributes and is adaptable to taking on ad hoc tasks.

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes.

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
