About Secret Cinema and the Role:

Secret Cinema produces spectacular theatrical productions that give our audiences an unforgettable night out. Our shows combine the talents of world class theatre makers with Secret Cinema’s unique approach to bringing immersive worlds to life.

The Development Producer incubates these projects, building viable commercial strategies while ensuring creative excellence, and preparing projects for full production (securing rights, hiring creative teams, and building investable commercial models).

Dates: June 2025 - December 2025 (with potential to extend depending on projects)

Commitment: Variable 4-5 days a week dependent on project status.

Qualified candidates must be based in the greater London area. The salary range for this role is £65k - £75k.

Development Responsibilities:
  • Commercial Development: Strategically developing formats and projects; Building theatrical models for investment, including format, pricing, and routes to production; Create indicative production build and operating budgets
  • With the Lead Producer, develop and hone project visions
  • Ensure that Secret Cinema is achieving diverse and best in class projects, at our unique intersection of theatre, immersive, event and live: Running world-class creative development process and sessions; Interrogating audience experience and consider practical and pragmatic factors
  • Identifying and bringing together creative teams: Expanding our network of high calibre creative teams; Developing a pipeline of external collaborators; Provide context, priorities and guidelines for development
  • Responsible for Producing projects from ideation to approval of full development: Work with cross-functional stakeholders to define Project Objectives, Target Audience, Indicative Parameters (capacity, timings, flow); Deliver required outputs clearly and concisely E.g. Translating concepts into research briefs / writing creative kick-offs / writing pitches / writing Deal Memos; Identify and manage risks for projects in development
Management & Resourcing Responsibilities:
  • Plan and coordinate all required resources to deliver successful development: Recruitment, negotiation, supplier management, and contracting; Ensure all team members effectively and efficiently onboarded; Continuously improve the inclusivity of our Projects, for audiences and teams alike
  • Responsible for Feasibility and Development resourcing and spend, setting, managing and reconciling budgets, approving POs and signing contracts
Communication & Learning Responsibilities:
  • Successfully manage and navigate complex relationships, often with competing objectives
  • Represent Secret Cinema, presenting updates as required (including to Studios)
  • Work to continuously improve our processes and systems
Essential Experience:
  • Minimum 5+ years commercial theatrical producing on best in class productions (West End equivalent), could be Development or Associate Producer or General Management
  • Experience managing creative teams through non-traditional development processes
  • Familiarity working within a range of experience practices encompassing:
  • Live performers, including theatrical, interactive, dancers and circus.
  • Set builds, particularly immersive approaches and methodologies.
  • Video work.
  • Strong personal network of theatrical collaborators, and experience working with top level artists.
Essential Skills:
  • Strong instincts on what is key to the audience experience when creating events.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent project management skills; highly focussed and organised, and able to grasp and wrestle with complex challenges.
  • Sound judgement and a proven ability to manage and be comfortable with a dynamically changing environment.
  • Excellent budgeting and IT skills, including Excel/Sheets.

  • Experience working in both the UK and internationally (particularly the USA).
  • Immersive event development, with an emphasis on practical and production.
  • Experience activating and re-purposing sites for public use.
  • Familiarity with a variety of project management methodologies and tools, able to recommend and adapt to a variety of approaches as best suited to an individual project’s needs.
