Job Title: Secondary Welfare Support Assistant

Full – Time Secondary Welfare Support Assistant – Basingstoke, Hampshire

GSL Education invites you to step into a Full-Time Welfare Support Assistant role at a thriving secondary school in Basingstoke. Starting immediately, this role commitment is to working term-time only, Monday–Friday, 8:30 am–3:30 pm, and offers an enriching salary of £21,500–£24,500 per annum, beautifully reflecting your dedication and expertise in nurturing young minds.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-call support for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across the school.
  • Collaborate with teachers, pastoral leads, and external professionals to design and implement positive interventions.
  • De-escalate challenging situations and offer one-to-one emotional support.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive environment that promotes resilience, self-esteem, and positive behaviour.
  • Maintain accurate records of welfare incidents and student progress.

Requirements:

  • Experience in youth work, social care, pastoral support, or a related field (transferable skills welcome).
  • Empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal skills to build trust with students.
  • A proactive, calm approach to managing emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
