GSL Education are currently seeking a committed and enthusiastic individual to take on the role of Secondary Teaching Assistant (TA) in a well-regarded mainstream secondary school located in Gosport, Hampshire. The role is also open to part-time arrangements for suitable candidates and is an excellent opportunity for university students looking to build valuable experience in education.

About the Role:

As a Secondary Teaching Assistant (TA), you will work closely with teachers to provide in-class support, enabling students to access the curriculum, overcome learning barriers, and develop essential skills. Your support will play a vital role in creating a safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment where all students can achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teaching and learning across a variety of subjects within the secondary curriculum.
  • Provide targeted support to students with additional learning needs or those who require extra encouragement.
  • Assist in managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive and focused environment.
  • Prepare learning resources and provide administrative support to teaching staff when required.
  • Deliver small group or one-to-one interventions as directed by the teacher or SENCO.
  • Promote and reinforce positive attitudes, independence, and self-confidence in learners.
  • Help monitor student progress and provide feedback to staff on areas of concern or development.
  • Ensure that safeguarding policies and student welfare remain a top priority in all interactions.

Job Requirements:

  • Some prior experience working with children or young people in any capacity is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate and patient approach.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team while showing initiative when required.
  • Suitable for university students in Education, Psychology, or related fields seeking school-based experience.
  • A passion for education and a genuine desire to support students’ learning and personal growth.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
