Salary: £86 - £100 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are pleased to offer a rewarding opportunity for a caring and resilient Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a supportive secondary school in Sheffield. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong passion for inclusive education and a desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of pupils with special educational needs.

About the Role:

The Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant will work alongside teachers and SEN specialists to provide tailored support to students with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language difficulties, and social-emotional challenges. This role focuses on building trust, encouraging independence, and helping students overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN, both in class and in intervention sessions.
2. Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual student needs.
3. Support students’ emotional wellbeing, encouraging positive self-esteem and resilience.
4. Implement behaviour management strategies and foster a respectful, inclusive classroom environment.
5. Assist teachers in delivering differentiated lessons and assessing pupil progress.
6. Liaise with SENCOs, external agencies, and families to support holistic development.
7. Help students with transitions between activities and throughout the school day.

Job Requirements:

1. Prior experience working with SEN pupils in a secondary school setting is highly desirable.
2. Sound understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive teaching practices.
3. A patient, empathetic, and adaptable attitude towards supporting young people with diverse needs.
4. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships with pupils.
5. A relevant qualification in education, SEN, or youth support (e.g. Level 2/3 TA or SEN qualification) is beneficial.
6. Familiarity with safeguarding protocols and behaviour management techniques.
7. Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
