Empowering Learning is seeking a dedicated Secondary School Teacher to inspire pupils across Derby and surrounding areas. You will deliver engaging lessons in line with the National Curriculum, adapting for SEND/EAL needs and promoting high standards in behaviour and attainment.

We welcome both Early Career and experienced teachers, with flexible full-time, part-time, and supply options and a supportive consultancy throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

• Plan, prepare, and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons in line with the National Curriculum and exam board specifications
• Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND, EAL, or additional needs
• Set high expectations for pupil achievement, behaviour, and attitudes to learning
• Use a variety of teaching strategies and resources to maintain pupil engagement and motivation

Assessment & Progress

• Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress accurately and regularly, including exam and coursework preparation
• Use assessment data to inform planning and identify pupils requiring additional support or challenge
• Provide constructive, timely feedback to pupils to support their development
• Contribute to pupil progress meetings, parents' evenings, and reporting cycles

Classroom & Behaviour Management

• Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment
• Manage classroom behaviour effectively and consistently, in line with the school's behaviour policy
• Promote a calm, safe, and respectful atmosphere conducive to learning

Collaboration & Communication

• Work collaboratively with fellow teachers, department colleagues, and senior leadership
• Communicate regularly and professionally with parents/carers regarding pupil progress and wellbeing
• Contribute to whole-school initiatives, events, and extra-curricular activities where appropriate
• Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, INSET days, and CPD sessions

Safeguarding

• Uphold the school's safeguarding policies at all times, promoting the welfare and wellbeing of every pupil
• Report any safeguarding concerns promptly through the correct channels

Requirements

Essential

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification
• Experience teaching at secondary level, with strong subject knowledge in your specialist area
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
• Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding procedures and the National Curriculum
• A genuine passion for teaching and improving outcomes for pupils
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
• Eligibility to work in the UK

Desirable

• Experience with SEN/SEND provision or working with pupils with additional needs
• Experience teaching GCSE and/or A Level specifications
• Experience with pastoral responsibilities (e.g., form tutor, head of year)
• Recent, relevant CPD or training
