Job description

Job Title: Secondary Learning Support Assistant

Location: Plymouth, Devon

Axcis Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Secondary Learning Support Assistant to join our vibrant educational community in Plymouth, Devon. The successful candidate will provide essential support to our secondary students, enabling them to fully engage with the curriculum and achieve their educational targets.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Work alongside classroom teachers to identify students in need of additional support.
  2. Assist students with specific learning difficulties or disabilities in a classroom setting or in smaller, targeted intervention groups.
  3. Provide tailored support to students, adapting materials and methods to meet their individual needs and learning styles.
  4. Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student participation and independence.
  5. Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) under the guidance of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo).
  6. Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers, parents, and other professionals as required.
  7. Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and families to support student learning and wellbeing.
  8. Aid students in developing organizational, study, and social skills.
  9. Promote inclusion by encouraging the integration of students with additional needs into all school activities.
  10. Assist with personal care needs of students where necessary, maintaining dignity and respect.
  11. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and sensitive situations that may arise.
Requirements:
  1. A patient, understanding, and nurturing demeanour with a passion for helping students succeed.
  2. GCSE in Maths and English C or above.
  3. Experience working with secondary-age students, particularly those with additional educational needs.
  4. Knowledge of current educational practices and special educational needs strategies.
  5. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families.
  6. Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  7. A proactive and resourceful approach to problem-solving.
  8. The ability to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a team.
  9. A commitment to ongoing professional development.
