Job description

Academics is seeking enthusiastic and adaptable individuals to join our growing team of Secondary Cover Supervisors. Due to increased demand from our client secondary schools across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, we are expanding our current pool of cover staff.

Role Overview

As a Secondary Cover Supervisors., you will step into the classroom in the absence of a teacher to deliver pre-prepared work and maintain classroom order. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals considering a career in teaching or those looking to gain further experience working with young people in a secondary school setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise students in the absence of the regular teacher.

Manage classroom behaviour and ensure students stay on task.

Support students in understanding the cover material when required.

Follow school policies and procedures, maintaining a positive learning environment.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for individuals who:

Have strong classroom or group behaviour management skills.

Are confident, adaptable, and reliable - schools may call from 7:00am for same-day bookings.

Are able to travel to secondary schools in Stoke-on-Trent or Staffordshire with 30-60 minutes' notice.

Are flexible to work Monday to Friday during term time.

Hold or are willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (we can assist with this process).

Suitable Backgrounds and Experience

We welcome applications from candidates with experience in any of the following areas:

HLTA, Teaching Assistant, or Pastoral roles in schools.

Youth work, sports coaching, or mentoring.

Tutoring, teaching abroad, or adult education.

Leadership roles within Scouts, Guides, or similar organisations.
