Full Job Description

Location/Office Policy: London (St Mary's Axe) or Belfast (Ann Street). Remote Centric.

Do you want to be part of a highly skilled and collaborative risk management team? Are you able to grasp complex, high-impact risk management challenges and distill their primary risk drivers? Can you provide clear, informed risk challenges to our first-line colleagues to help them manage financial risks within our business?

Role Overview: The Risk Function is an independent, second line of defence that monitors, controls, and supports risk-taking activities across AIB. Its main goal is to ensure a robust risk management framework and culture, aligning with the risk appetite set by the Board, supporting AIB's customer franchise and social responsibility.

Reporting Line: The successful candidate will report to the UK Head of Financial Risk and support the evolution of the UK Financial Risk team.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leading the independent review and challenge of AIB UK's ICAAP, collaborating with UK Risk colleagues to form a single UK Risk opinion.
2. Reviewing and challenging UK-specific elements of the Group's Recovery Plan.
3. Overseeing risk appetite metrics related to Capital and Business Model Risk, including drafting monthly submissions to the UK Risk Committee.
4. Participating in key annual risk management processes such as Risk Appetite formulation, Material Risk Assessment, and Policy reviews.
5. Reviewing and challenging the annual Business Plan and Strategy.
6. Evaluating key capital adequacy risks through deep dives, ensuring accuracy and alignment with policies.
7. Communicating findings and recommendations to senior management via UK ALCo, UK Risk Committee, and Board papers.
8. Writing risk opinion papers on material changes and presenting findings to relevant committees.
9. Engaging with external firms and industry forums to inform business strategies and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.

Candidate Requirements:

• Extensive experience in Capital Management or ALM within a banking institution, with exposure to ICAAP preparation or review.
• Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks related to Capital Risk and Recovery Planning, such as Basel guidelines and PRA/EBA standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related Risk/Finance discipline.
• Proven people management skills, including training staff in complex topics.
