Are you an experienced and ambitious Maths Teacher ready to take the next step in your leadership journey? A high-performing secondary school in Benfleet is looking for a dedicated Second in Charge of Maths to join their successful department from September 2025. This permanent role is open to both full-time and part-time applicants and offers an exciting opportunity to shape teaching and learning within a thriving maths team.

Working closely with the Head of Department, you’ll take on strategic and operational responsibilities to drive progress and raise standards across KS3 and KS4. You’ll bring energy, leadership, and a commitment to helping every student achieve their full potential. This role is ideal for someone who is confident in the classroom, has a track record of strong results, and is ready to step into a leadership role with the support of a collaborative school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Department in leading the maths faculty across all year groups.
  • Plan and deliver outstanding lessons that promote high achievement and engagement.
  • Model effective teaching practices and support the development of team members.
  • Monitor student progress and contribute to departmental strategy and improvement plans.
  • Contribute to curriculum design, resource development, and assessment planning.
  • Uphold high standards of teaching, learning, and behaviour.
  • Take a leading role in mentoring, coaching, and supporting less experienced colleagues.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • QTS and a degree in Mathematics or a closely related field (essential).
  • Significant teaching experience in a secondary setting (essential).
  • Proven track record of strong pupil outcomes and classroom practice.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting colleagues is highly desirable.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Passion for maths and commitment to inclusive, high-quality education.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to student welfare.
