Job Opportunity: Chef/Cook at Bishopsmead Lodge Care Home

Location: Bishopsmead Lodge Care Home, Bristol, BS8 8ES

Salary: £[amount] per hour, based on hours per week

Bishopsmead Lodge is a Harbour Healthcare Home, known for its caring, fun, and family-run atmosphere. The purpose-built home is situated in the heart of the local community, accessible by local bus routes, and dedicated to residents’ happiness and wellbeing.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a full-time Chef/Cook to join our team, including some weekends. The ideal candidate will have culinary and management experience, responsible for kitchen operations such as ordering supplies, food preparation, maintaining quality standards, sanitation, cleanliness, and supervising staff.

Responsibilities include:
  • Preparing, cooking, and serving meals and snacks tailored to residents’ dietary needs (e.g., diabetics, texture-modified foods, vegetarian)
  • Managing stock and ordering supplies
  • Planning menus
  • Conducting food safety checks and maintaining records
  • Adhering to company policies and health and safety procedures
  • Ensuring cleanliness and proper functioning of equipment and food service areas
  • Collaborating with the Activities Team for special events
  • Supervising staff and completing employee evaluations
  • Possessing relevant catering qualifications and food safety/hygiene certifications
  • Exhibiting excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrating effective time management and teamwork
Additional duties:
  • Participating in staff meetings and mandatory training
  • Communicating effectively with staff, residents’ families, visitors, and professional agencies
  • Promoting safe working practices within the home
