Job description

What we do? With 1,000 acres of history, walks, wellness, shopping, food and adventure, all in a beautiful setting just a few miles from Edinburgh, Dalkeith Country Park is enjoyed and valued by locals and visitors from afar. Nestled within our beautiful Country Park, Dalkeith Palace, commissioned by Anna 1st Duchess of Buccleuch and designed by architect James Smith, hosts exhibitions, tours and events throughout the year.

The role? You will be given the opportunity to learn about Dalkeith Palace’s amazing, rich history and, after you have been fully trained, will lead engaging, fact-led tours for public and private groups. Other responsibilities include carrying out any tour related admin, checking tickets, and recording bookings. You may also be asked to support Palace events from time to time. This is a seasonal role and hours are variable, primarily at weekends (including Fridays). While hours may not be regular, we anticipate that Palace activities will continue to evolve, providing ongoing seasonal opportunities during peak times for the right candidate.

The person? With a willingness to learn and share your knowledge, you will be comfortable with public speaking, and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to engage with visitors. You will be comfortable communicating with a wide range of people, have a passion for history and art, and enjoy working with people. This is an excellent opportunity to use your existing skills or gain new experience in the heritage sector. Local knowledge is a bonus, but full training will be provided.

Why work for us? We offer excellent benefits including gym and shopping discounts, and wellbeing related support and resources.
