In preparation for the 2025 autumn season, GB Railfreight is seeking highly motivated individuals to join us as Seasonal Operators.
You will be based in Peterborough until 31st December, with the potential for a permanent Rail Operator role at one of our nationwide depots upon successful completion.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for those looking to gain operational experience in the rail industry within a safety-critical environment, providing exposure to various roles and personnel within the business.
Full training will be provided, including Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification and equipment-specific training.
What will you be doing?
During the autumn leaf-fall season, the national network deploys strategic Rail Head Treatment Trains (RHTTs) to maintain safe railhead conditions. As an RHTT operator, you will be responsible for the safe and effective operation of these units within your region.
You will also carry out tasks such as locomotive cleaning, sanding, and ensuring readiness to maintain depot standards.

Essential Criteria
Safety conscious; Safety is paramount when working on locos and RHTT units. Candidates must adhere strictly to safety practices at all times.
Comfortable with shift work; The role involves working at all hours, seven days a week, with varied shifts. An openness to overtime is desirable.
Strong work ethic; A dedicated work ethic distinguishes good operators from great ones.
Basic mechanical/technical understanding; Fault finding, reporting, and basic rectification skills are required, with training provided.
Ability to sustain concentration for long periods; Operators must maintain focus during extended runs between stops.
Perseverance and flexibility; The ability to adapt to changing scenarios and persevere to achieve goals is essential.
Ability to pass industry-standard medical; Passing the industry medical is a requirement for operational roles in the rail industry.
