GB Railfreight Limited seeks highly motivated Seasonal Operators in Peterborough for the autumn season, potentially leading to permanent Rail Operator roles. In preparation for the 2025 autumn season, GB Railfreight is looking for highly motivated individuals to join us as Seasonal Operators.
You will be based in Peterborough until 31st December, with the potential for a permanent role as a Rail Operator at one of our nationwide depots upon successful completion.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for those seeking operational experience in the rail industry within a safety-critical environment, providing exposure to various roles and personnel within the business.
Full training will be provided, including Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification and equipment-specific training.
What will you be doing?
During the autumn leaf-fall season, the national network deploys strategic Rail Head Treatment Trains (RHTTs) to maintain safe railhead conditions. As an RHTT operator, you will be responsible for the safe and effective operation of these units within your region.
You will also carry out tasks such as locomotive cleaning, sanding, and readiness checks to ensure depot maintenance.

Essential Criteria
Safety conscious; Safety is paramount when working with locomotives and RHTT units. Operators must adhere strictly to safety practices at all times.
Comfortable with shift work; The role involves working across various shifts, including nights and weekends, with a willingness to work overtime.
Strong work ethic; A dedicated attitude is essential to excel in this role.
Basic mechanical/technical understanding; The job involves fault finding, reporting, and rectification, with training provided.
Ability to sustain concentration for long periods; Operators must maintain focus during long train runs between stops.
Perseverance and flexibility; Adaptability is crucial as scenarios can change unexpectedly.
Ability to pass industry-standard medical; Passing the required medical examination is mandatory for operational roles.
