Job summary

SEA Ltd in the Midlands is seeking a Sea Freight Import Operator to join its growing, employee-owned freight-forwarding team. You will manage end-to-end ocean import operations and help expand exports and airfreight capabilities.

The role offers progression to lead the Sea Freight Department, with strong supplier and customer relationships and a hands-on, collaborative environment as the business scales.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 months' experience in ocean freight forwarding.
• Experience managing both import and export shipments.
• Hands-on with LCL and FCL operations.
• Good knowledge of ocean/air freight documentation and procedures.
• Strong organisation and attention to detail.
• Understanding of customs procedures and international freight rules.
• Ability to handle multiple shipments with deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage ocean and air freight import/export shipments from booking to final delivery.
• Coordinate bookings with lines, agents, hauliers and overseas partners.
• Prepare and check shipping and customs documentation for accuracy.
• Coordinate customs clearance, collections and final deliveries with updates.
• Resolve issues, delays and discrepancies proactively with customers.
• Obtain and compare freight rates; prepare accurate quotations.
• Ensure costs and supplier invoices are up to date.
• Build strong relationships with customers, carriers and agents.
• Support and supervise the ocean freight team.
• Ensure compliance with procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with air freight and international courier shipments as needed.
• Contribute to process improvements and service standards.

We are seeking a Sea Freight Import Operator who is ambitious and willing to learn exports and airfreight. This is a fantastic opportunity for progression to run the Sea Freight Department within an employee-owned Freight Forwarding business. The successful candidate will have solid practical experience within Sea Freight start to finish, and the ability to build strong customer and supplier relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage ocean and air freight import/export shipments from booking through to final delivery, including LCL and FCL shipments.
• Coordinate bookings with shipping lines, freight agents, hauliers and overseas partners.
• Prepare, check and process shipping and customs documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Coordinate customs clearance, collections and final deliveries, while monitoring shipments and providing timely customer updates.
• Resolve operational issues, delays, documentation discrepancies and customer queries proactively.
• Obtain, compare and negotiate competitive freight rates and prepare accurate customer quotations.
• Ensure all costs, sales charges, supplier invoices and operational files are accurate and up to date.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, overseas agents and hauliers.
• Support, guide and supervise the ocean freight team.
• Ensure operations comply with company procedures and relevant customs, shipping and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with air freight and international courier shipments as required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of operational processes and customer service standards.

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 12 months' experience in ocean freight forwarding.
• Practical experience managing both import and export shipments.
• Hands-on experience with LCL and FCL operations.
• Good working knowledge of ocean and air freight documentation, processes and procedures.
• Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Good knowledge of customs procedures and international freight regulations.
• Ability to manage multiple shipments, deadlines and priorities effectively.
