Job summary

Autodesk is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test to build automated quality and delivery systems for a new Electron-based desktop platform. You will own test automation, CI/CD pipelines, packaging, and release validation in a hands-on, IC role.

The position is hybrid, based in Sheffield, with collaboration across engineering and infrastructure teams. You will work on Windows desktop testing, release-readiness, and improving developer feedback and reliability of customer releases.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Software development or test automation experience using a language such as Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, PowerShell, C#, Java, or similar.
Experience developing automated tests for software applications.
Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery concepts and tools such as Jenkins, CloudBees CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar.
Understanding of source control systems such as Git and common software development workflows.
Ability to troubleshoot common software, test automation, build, and environment problems.
Understanding of software testing practices including functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing.
Ability to work collaboratively with software engineers and other technical team members.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Test automation - approx. 35%: Develop and maintain automated functional, integration, end-to-end, installer, upgrade, and regression tests.
CI/CD and build automation - approx. 30%: Develop and maintain CI pipelines using Jenkins or similar systems.
Release qualification and automation - approx. 20%: Automate Windows desktop packaging, code signing, publishing, and installation validation.
Troubleshooting and quality improvement - approx. 15%: Investigate failures and reproduce issues with engineers.
Review requirements and user stories to define test scope and plans.
Execute testing when automation isn’t available or for exploratory validation.
Build and maintain reusable test utilities and data.
Create automated Windows test environments using VMs or reproducible infra.
Participate in release-readiness, bug bashes, and risk assessment.
Monitor tests and pipelines; report failures clearly and distinguish defects.
