Job description

The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK's nuclear submarines. Our work is of strategic national and international importance, ensuring the security of the UK's continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent (CASD), and involves some of the most technically complex defence programmes. At least one of four nuclear-armed submarines, supported by smaller attack submarines, is on patrol at all times, 24/7.

At SDA, we support, deliver, and aspire, with our core values central to our recruitment process. We promote a diverse and inclusive workforce, where everyone feels comfortable to be themselves and supported to excel. We believe that celebrating different backgrounds and perspectives enables us to achieve extraordinary results.

We are excited to offer an exceptional opportunity for a talented Project Manager to join our Project Delivery team. This role involves delivering complex, high-impact projects that shape the future of submarine capability, working alongside defence experts, and gaining exposure to cutting-edge technologies and unique challenges that will enhance your skills and career.

Your responsibilities include supporting the UK's CASD by ensuring the delivery of safe and effective equipment to Front Line Commands and their personnel. You will manage projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with scope, contributing to one of the nation's most vital defence missions.

Please note: SDA promotes flexible working. Regular in-person attendance (minimum 40%) is expected to facilitate face-to-face collaboration, especially during initial familiarisation with the site, team, and role.

Person Specification
  • Lead, manage, and develop multidisciplinary teams across semi-complex projects, simple projects, or control accounts.
  • Ensure project delivery within performance, cost, and time parameters.
  • Optimize delivery methods, mitigate risks, and leverage opportunities.
  • Support an open, honest, no-blame culture, highlighting issues and learning from experience.
  • Ensure governance, policy compliance, and appropriate challenge and approval processes.
  • Engage with customers to understand objectives, requirements, and acceptance criteria aligned with MOD's Operating Model and Defence Lines of Development.

Artificial Intelligence can assist your application process, but all examples must be truthful and based on your own experience. Plagiarism or misrepresentation can lead to application rejection or disciplinary action.

During the selection process, you will be assessed on behaviors such as Working Together and Managing a Quality Service, as well as technical competencies in controlling a project and stakeholder management.

Security and Eligibility

Applicants must meet security requirements, including security checks and baseline personnel security standards.

Essential Criteria
  • Experience delivering semi-complex projects successfully.
  • Proven ability to build strong stakeholder relationships at all levels.
Benefits
  • Salary of £45,700 plus a contribution of £13,239 towards the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
  • Learning and development tailored to your role.
  • Flexible working options.
  • An inclusive and diverse culture.
  • Employer pension contribution of 28.97%.
