Santander Consumer Finance (SCUK) is one of the UK’s leading motor finance companies and we are currently looking for a Head of Business Oversight.
This is a unique opportunity for an influential and pragmatic leader to drive the transformation agenda in the UK business. The purpose of the role is to deliver first class results across a range of inter-disciplinary projects under the direction of the SCUK CEO. The role will report to the CEO.
We need someone that can provide direction and influence to address identified challenges, issues and opportunities for improvement by fostering a change culture across the business and taking a mature approach to risk and compliance.
This role can be offered on a permanent or secondment basis.
Creating and agreeing strategies with stakeholders ensuring full buy-in and accountabilities are clear and fit for purpose
Leads and manages the implementation of key strategic projects
Escalation point for problem resolution and decisions to deal with challenges, barriers or cultural obstacles
Developing key data, governance, documentation and measurable KPIs to assist in the end-to-end management of change projects
Responsible for key communication updates and briefs to all relevant stakeholders
Ensuring strong relationships are fostered and effective collaboration across functions
Accountable for engagement, sponsorship, oversight and monitoring of organisational-wide change and remedial programmes
Senior member of various project governance forums
Responsible for ensuring any legal, regulatory or financial guidance is identified and assessed by the relevant SMEs and advisors to devise appropriate mitigation measures
Ensure appropriate identification of any relevant risks and development/maintenance of controls
Develop (as necessary) SCUK’s risk appetite and risk appetite metrics linked to particular topics (consulting with SMEs as appropriate)
Ensuring data-led decisions through the use of reliable information, data sources and measurement
Ensures that comprehensive models, Data and MI are in place to support effective management as well as lead on accurate internal and external reporting if required
In conjunction with relevant leaders, set the required people strategies to enable the change to succeed
Influences and supports other Heads of functions to work collaboratively together, sharing approaches and methodologies
Ensure that a culture of coaching, development and continuous learning is in place to monitor the right capability and effectiveness is in place to ensure project requirements are delivered
Ensure that appropriate training is in place across the business in respect of the change topic
Ensure that team members are developed to complement and demonstrate the Teams behaviours
Supports SCUK in the definition and execution of Think Customer with a clear focus on the customer journey and experience management of regulatory and financial risk arising from internal and external activities, processes and people
Transition management and ensuring change is effectively integrated into the business without degradation
Influences ideas for change or business improvements are encouraged and resources, plans and processes are put into place to address these
Plans and delivers other relevant projects which meet the Company’s objectives

Identifies and drives initiatives to produce significant business improvements or cultural change in support of business advantage and customer outcomes

Managing projects may include the inception of projects, planning and progressing activity to meet required timescales, assessing risk, managing resources and communicating with all stakeholders, internal and external.
Adhering to our commitment to Consumer Duty ensuring we put our customers’ needs first and set higher and clearer standards of consumer protection
Significant risk and compliance experience and be well versed in the area of financial services operations
Strong commercial awareness and an ability to produce technical and policy output which is clear and practical to set business strategy
Ability to analyse and report on data and financial information
Strong communicator/influencer at Executive Committee level
Demonstrated experience in providing solutions to regulatory issues and taking ownership of resolution
Detailed knowledge of regulatory and industry matters gained from UK finance or banking organisations
Experience in leading and developing teams and individuals
Sound understanding of risk controls, processes, measures and related MI/reporting and the related technical knowledge.
Sound knowledge of regulated and compliant environments and the control thereof.
Has ideally worked within motor related financial services or as a minimum worked within a related services sector.
Ability to produce sound working documentation and presentations, including business case proposals and requirements, briefs and presentations, with the ability to deliver and present to stakeholders of all levels effectively.
A strong knowledge of the UK regulatory framework connected with motor finance and the operational and commercial challenges within in a motor finance environment is desirable
Coordinates key senior stakeholder sign off and agreement on findings and the remediation of any issues tracking recommendations through to completion
Strong process facilitation, project management, and analytical skills
Understanding of operational and enterprise-wide risk frameworks desired including relevant regulatory frameworks, policies, procedures and processes, and clear understanding of accountabilities within a matrix organisation (including three lines of defence and SM&CR accountabilities)
Holds an acceptable level of qualification for the role (and at least educated to degree or equivalent level)
