Your role is critical in enabling successful agile delivery against the transition milestones. You will manage the scrum team, consisting of the System Integrator consortium partner, System Development consortium partner, and the customer.

The Scrum Master will lead, educate, and mentor individuals in Agile process/delivery, supporting Serco’s ambition of being a customer-focused organisation, structured as Agile product teams. You will promote and support Scrum delivery, including Sprint Ceremonies, by helping everyone understand Scrum theory, practices, rules, and values.

At Serco, we are proud to partner with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) in providing critical recruitment services for the UK’s Armed Forces. This new approach will, for the first time, see the Royal Navy, the British Army, and the Royal Air Force have a joint Armed Forces Recruitment Service (AFRS). Delivered through a partnership of the MOD, Serco, and our consortium of partners, this service will provide end-to-end support from candidate attraction to assessment, onboarding, and Phase 1 training. Our team brings together best-in-class integrated technology and specialist partners to offer a holistic recruitment and skills solution for the UK Armed Forces, designed to modernise and improve the overall candidate experience.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Provide leadership and mentorship in Agile process and delivery.
  • Support teams with prioritisation and management of the sprint backlog to ensure timely and accurate product delivery.
  • Support the product owner to ensure the product backlogs are managed effectively and are aligned for the next sprint.
  • Create a development environment that is creative, safe, productive, and supportive which enables multi-directional collaboration.
  • Build a trusting environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on resolution and problem solving.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to enable successful delivery.
  • Proactively help remove any obstacles that teams/individuals may encounter.
  • Lead Scrum meetings and provide team support during sprint planning and execution.
  • Ensure agile principles are clearly defined, understood, and adhered to.
  • Ensure a good relationship between the product team, product owner, stakeholders, and the wider business.
  • Promote and ensure efficient coordination between all roles in the delivery of the product.
  • Bring clarity to delivery expectations and ensure that the team delivers.
  • Enable/facilitate creativity and efficiency within the DevOps team to continuously improve delivery and service.

What you’ll need:

  • Scrum Master certified or relevant Agile project experience.
  • Significant experience as a Scrum Master.
  • Knowledge of agile methodology and frameworks like Scrum, Kanban, etc.
  • Familiarity with software development practices and service-oriented environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to achieve SC clearance upon appointment.
  • Serco actively encourages applications from veterans, military spouses, and reservists.

What we offer:

  • Company car.
  • Bonus potential – up to 10%.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • Up to 6% contributory pension.
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Annual leave purchase scheme.
  • Access to the Serco benefits portal offering discounts across major high street brands in Retail, Leisure & Hospitality.
  • Health and wellbeing support for you and your family, including an Employee Assistance Programme, Health Cash Plans, free flu jabs, and more.

  • A safe, inclusive, and supportive culture.
  • A company passionate about diversity and inclusion.
