Job summary

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust is seeking an Obstetric Theatres Scrub Nurse (Band 5) for a fixed maternity cover at Croydon University Hospital. You will be part of the obstetric theatres team, delivering safe, compassionate care to women and babies while supported by specialists as needed.

You will contribute to pregnancy-related and newborn care, uphold patient safety, and participate in ongoing training to promote evidence-based practice and service improvements.

Qualifications

  • Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner registered with NMC or HPC.
  • UK recognised Anaesthetic course (for nurses wanting to practice Anaesthetics).
  • Evidence of continued professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the theatres to receive patients for surgical procedures.
  • Provide assistance in immediate post-operative care as needed.
  • Assist in positioning and preparation of the patient per surgical team instructions.
  • Ensure specimens are labelled and dispatched to the lab.
  • Document all care on the IT system in accordance with policy.
  • Help control cross infection per departmental policy and procedures.

This is an exciting opportunity to provide high-quality adult nursing care while supporting women, babies, and families in a dynamic maternity and obstetric setting. You will deliver safe, compassionate care, administer medications within your competence, and contribute to pregnancy-related and new born care within your scope, with support from specialists when needed.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be part of the clinical team who ensure that clinical care of patients, and others using the services, receive an efficient and quality service.

The role responsibilities will be to:

  • Prepare the clinical areas (theatres) to receive patients for surgical procedures
  • Provide assistance in clinical areas for immediate post-operative care when the need arises
  • Assist in the positioning and preparation of the patient as directed by the surgical team
  • Ensure that any specimens are correctly labelled and dispatched to the lab
  • Ensure all care is documented on the IT system, including all disposables, and everything is logged accurately on the correct system in accordance with Trust and departmental policy and procedures
  • Help control cross infection by observing departmental policy regarding
    • Uniform code
    • Maintaining a clean working environment
    • Decontamination/sterilisation procedures
    • Aseptic technique
