Job summary

Optegra is seeking an experienced Scrub Nurse for our North London Eye Hospital in Colindale. You will be part of the operating theatre team, delivering skilled clinical and technical support across the ophthalmic surgical pathway and peri-operative care as needed.

The role requires registration (NMC/ODP) and ophthalmology theatre experience, with a strong focus on patient care, accuracy, and teamwork in a private hospital setting. Training is funded and career development supported.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse or Operating Department Practitioner with current registration.
• One year ophthalmology theatre experience or more.
• Good IT skills including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a full range of duties in line with the surgical pathway and policies.
• Anticipate needs of the surgical team and provide appropriate instrumentation and equipment.
• Ensure proper decontamination and sterilisation of reusable equipment.
• Complete documentation for traceability.

The Role

The job holder will be responsible for participating in all aspects of the Ophthalmic Surgical pathway at Optegra. They will provide excellent care to all patients, with specific responsibility for providing skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team, and also may include peri-operative and post-operative care in the surgical and refractive suite of the hospital, and assisting with minor operations.

Key responsibilities

• Carries out a full range of registered heath care professional duties, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient’s condition and care with support from the Practitioner in charge. Maintains the privacy and dignity of all patients whilst adhering to Trust and department policies, reporting any difficulties with these duties to senior staff.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, by provision or appropriate surgical instrumentation and equipment.
• Take responsibility to ensure all surgical equipment is disposed of correctly including ensuring appropriate decontamination and sterilisation of reusable equipment is carried out and can be evidenced.
• Ensure all documentation for traceability is effectively completed.

Requirements

• Registered General Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner
• Current NMC/ODP registration with no restrictions
• Qualification in Ophthalmology or Peri operative care
• One year or more ophthalmology surgical theatre experience
• Computer and IT skills i.e. good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Awareness of responsibilities in relation to NMC Professional Code of Conduct
• Awareness of CQC standards and requirements
