THE ROLE

Are you experienced in Script Editing in drama, either as a Script Editor, Assistant Script Editor or even Trainee Script Editor? Are you looking for the next big step to channel your proven editorial flair and creative expertise in the multi-award winning soap, EastEnders?

Eastenders are looking for their next Script Editor who will play an integral role delivering the stories of the character in Albert Square that millions of viewers tune into every week. Reporting to the Script Producer, you will work within the team responsible for overseeing episodes from idea, delivery and through to shoot. Duties will include:

  • Advising on all script-related matters as well as being responsible for managing the relationships between writers and the production staff
  • Balancing competing demands; required to represent the interests of the writer to the production team and ensure that the author consents to major script changes whilst conveying the writers' interests and point of view in his/her absence
  • Ensure the writer has access to the editorial brief and access to any technical or consultant expertise that they require
  • Generate creative solutions as well as long term story ideas, whilst carrying out all the necessary checks and ensure that all scripts are editorially correct, raising and resolving any Editorial Policy concerns, doubts or conflicting views with the Script Producer
  • During preparation of the script, you will carry out all negative (e.g brand names) and legal checks ensuring that all reasonable action is taken to avoid copyright infringement, libel and defamation issues
  • Monito filming of episodes and be on-hand to discuss any dialogue or story concerns as and when they arise
  • Attend the monthly Commissioning meetings offering and suggesting critical and creative suggestions about your week’s episodes
WHAT DOES IT TAKE?
  • Demonstrable experience of Script Editing on a TV drama series, ideally in Soap
  • Significant experience in generating creative ideas and treatments and example of you working with new and experienced writers under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Strong communication, negotiation, influencing and persuading skills and able to showcase your ability to work within a team and on your own initiative
  • Thorough knowledge of script sources and the availability and potential of emerging talent
  • Enthusiasm and interest in BBC Drama Production, especially EastEnders
  • Understanding of the copyright law, Writers Guild agreements, contracts and the legal implications for production processes
  • Awareness of the financial consequences of editorial decisions
