Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking an experienced Head of Commissioning – Scotland to lead the safe, successful commissioning of major HV substation projects. You will set strategy, governance and assurance, coordinate internal teams with external partners, and drive safe energisation and client handover across Scotland.

You will lead a multi-disciplinary team, manage budgets and interfaces, and ensure readiness across tendering, design and construction while upholding UK safety and regulatory

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering, power systems or related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of substation commissioning lifecycle incl. factory/site tests, protection, SCADA, transformers and switchgear.
• Proven track record leading commissioning across major projects and managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Thorough understanding of UK legislation, CDM, electrical safety rules and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning across Scotland from construction completion through testing, energisation and handover.
• Develop and maintain commissioning strategy, governance, standards and assurance regime.
• Mobilise and performance-manage internal teams and external supply chain, ensuring safety and quality.
• Own portfolio resource and competency plan for project schedules and energisation milestones.
• Embed commissioning requirements in tendering, design, procurement and project controls.
• Lead readiness reviews, integrated commissioning plans and safe energisation sequences.
• Manage budgets, forecast, supplier performance, risks and change.
• Drive continuous improvement through standardisation and digital systems.
