The R&D Scientist will be performing the solid-state characterization of our lead assets across the company’s entire discovery portfolio. The individual will also collaborate with the rest of the team in the development and assessment of our formulations intended for preclinical and first-in-human administration

Essential Functions

  • Carry out comprehensive solid-state characterization activities to advance lead assets from early discovery through to first in human
  • Carry out solubility and dissolution experiment to assess the stability and predict the bio-performance of our internal formulations
  • Collaborate with the cross-functional team to design and execute solid-state experiments, crystallisation and polymorph screens, and analyses to provide fundamental understanding of drug substance and drug product stability
  • Document experimental procedures in accordance with existing standard operating procedures and best practices.
  • Comply with all relevant safety and GxP procedures
  • Demonstrate competency and innovation on a range of complex laboratory skills and equipment
  • Maintain industry knowledge and keep abreast of relevant new technologies.
  • Contribute to process driven continuous improvements initiatives
  • Record and review all experimental outcomes in an appropriate format
  • Report and communicate project outcomes in an appropriate manner
  • Identify and resolve promptly problems occurring at any phase of a study, escalating to the line manager where necessary
  • Maintain all areas of the laboratory in clean and tidy state.
  • Responsible for maintaining cGxP and Health and Safety knowledge relevant to the role
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others
  • Share ideas and information
  • Assist colleagues when required

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • High level of numeracy, and awareness of basic statistical principles
  • Excellent writing and presentational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, pro-active approach to problem solving.
  • Uses own judgment to execute follow-up experiments, including troubleshooting
  • Collaborative team player
  • Knowledge and hands on experience in any of the following techniques: DSC, TGA, DVS, XRPD, SEM, PSD, HPLC-UV, thermodynamic solubility assessment, polymorph screen

Required/Preferred Education And Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, chemical engineering or material sciences
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, chemical engineering or material sciences
