Job summary

Oxoid Remel Microbiology in Basingstoke is seeking a scientist to work on laboratory investigations of technical projects, including Quality Notifications, batch failures, and CAPAs. The role covers culture media support and manufacturing processes for DCM, raw materials, FDS, Fill products, and media prepared in other sites.

You will conduct investigations, plan and manage your own project work, collaborate across departments, and communicate findings with senior staff.

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in microbiology or related subject; 0–2 years in a microbiology lab.
  • Experience with Oxoid products is beneficial but not essential.
  • Ability to handle class 2 (and 3) microorganisms and hazardous chemicals safely.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate Quality Notifications, Incidents/CAPAs and supplier validation.
  • Carry out small projects within agreed schedules.
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve technical issues.
  • Plan and manage own work within projects, with supervision from senior staff.
  • Handle multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Communicate findings from investigations and propose further actions.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports to support incidents/change control.
  • Role involves practical lab work and basic project management duties.

About the role

You will work in a team of scientists on the laboratory investigation of technical projects, including, Quality Notifications, batch failure investigations, material qualifications and Incidents/CAPAs. The jobholder is jointly responsible for the support of the culture media and associated products range and the respective manufacturing processes. This includes dehydrated Culture Media (DCM), Raw Materials, Freeze Dried Supplements (FDS) and Liquid Fill products manufactured in Basingstoke, and prepared media manufactured in Perth and Wesel.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct investigations on various technical projects, such as Quality Notifications Incidents/CAPAs and supplier validation.
  • Carry out small projects within agreed schedules.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from different departments to find effective solutions to technical issues.
  • Plan and manage your own work within project boundaries, with guidance from Senior Scientists and Supervisor.
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Communicate findings from technical investigations, interpret unexpected results, and propose further actions to resolve issues.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports to support the resolution of Incidents/Change Control.
  • Role involves a practical focus.
  • Perform both laboratory work and basic project management duties.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

The jobholder should hold a degree or equivalent in a microbiological (or related) subject, though this is not essential, with 0-2 years’ experience working in a microbiology laboratory.

Experience as an end user of Oxoid products, would be of benefit, but is not essential.

The jobholder will be expected to handle class 2 (and 3, depending on vaccination status) microorganisms and hazardous chemicals in a safe manner, according to the department and company safety rules.
