Introduction to role:

Join AstraZeneca in the Early R&I (Respiratory and Immunology) department, aiming for early intervention, durable remission, disease modification, and cure of chronic diseases. We seek passionate scientists eager to make a difference!

We are looking for experienced senior researchers with expertise in neuronal reflexes and respiratory diseases to join our Bioscience team at Imperial College, London.

What you’ll do

You will focus on characterising mechanisms driving neuronal reflexes in airway and immunological disease, designing and executing bioscience experiments, collaborating with team leaders, and reporting scientific activities. The role may require working outside regular hours to meet project timelines.

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline with 5+ years postdoctoral/industrial experience.
  • Experience in extracellular electrophysiological recording techniques in airway sensory nerves.
  • Knowledge of afferent single fibre techniques.
  • Understanding of biological pathways in respiratory diseases like asthma, COPD, and IPF.
  • Current PIL license with experience in in vivo studies respecting the 3Rs.
  • Experience with human biological samples and relevant regulations.
  • Cellular imaging and recording techniques in primary cells.
  • Innovation in new technologies and methods.
  • Strong publication record and presentation experience.
  • Experience in training, supervision, and mentoring.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, capable of working independently and in teams.
  • Understanding of key biological pathways in immunological diseases.
  • Proficiency in biochemical and molecular techniques: primary cell culture, qPCR, protein expression, ELISA, Western blot, etc.
