Scientist (Biophysics and/or Biochemistry) (Under the leadership of Agnes Martin)

£33,700 - £38,150 plus benefits (includes up to 12% pension contribution and income protection)

Reports to: Senior Scientist, Mechanistic Pharmacology

Directorate: Research & Innovation

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time 35 hours per week (flexible working requests considered if they meet business needs)

Location: Babraham Research Campus, Cambridge (4 days on site)

We aim to accelerate the development of effective treatments through innovative approaches, combining cancer biology expertise, cutting-edge technology, and clinical insights.

Based at sites in Cambridge, Glasgow, London, and Newcastle, CRUK employs around 200 staff from diverse backgrounds.

Role responsibilities include: Conducting physiologically relevant biochemical/biophysical assays, enabling high-throughput screening, profiling structure-activity relationships, and characterizing mechanisms of action to inform clinical efficacy.

Qualifications:

  • A BS, MSc, or PhD in biological sciences such as biochemistry, biophysics, or pharmacology; relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • Experience in drug discovery, particularly in characterizing small molecule inhibitors and mechanisms across target classes.
  • Understanding of biochemical/biophysical assays and detection technologies, especially in physiologically relevant systems.
  • Experience with liquid handling and automation is advantageous.
