What you’ll do:

  1. Work closely with Chemists, Materials Scientists, Engineers, and Biologists, developing functional membranes for use in affinity chromatography.
  2. Develop methods for the chemical modification of membrane materials in flow reactors from early R&D phase through to readiness for transfer to Production.
  3. Characterise membranes using analytical methods including Raman Spectroscopy, SEC-HPLC, LC-MS, FT-IR, and dry weight, as well as working on the development of new methods.
  4. Take a leading role in planning, execution, data analysis, and reporting of R&D studies, including Design of Experiments, shelf-life, and robustness studies.
  5. Write up experimental findings in Electronic Lab Notebook entries and Technical reports, as well as presenting the data to colleagues within the R&D team.

Who you are:

  1. PhD in Chemistry or a related subject, with a minimum of 6 months experience in a directly relevant R&D role, or MSc in the same subjects with a minimum of 4 years in a directly relevant R&D role.
  2. Extensive laboratory experience in wet chemistry/synthetic organic chemical reactions.
  3. Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in one or more of the analytical methods listed above.
  4. Experience in the use of analytical software (R, Python, Matlab, MODDE, etc.).
  5. Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, able to multi-task efficiently.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Experience of Product Development in the biotechnology industry.
  • Experience in data analysis and statistics relating to Design of Experiments, setting product specification limits, and/or analytical method validation.
