Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced developer with a strong understanding of the Life Sciences, pharmaceutical, and biotech industries to join our team in a fully home-based role within the UK. The successful candidate will develop software to support our lab and R&D efforts.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and develop advanced software applications for laboratory and bioinformatics workflows, focusing on data management and analysis.
2. Maintain and enhance existing software systems to support ongoing drug discovery and development efforts.
3. Collaborate with scientists and lab personnel to automate lab processes, define system requirements, and gather user feedback for new features.
4. Implement and refine software lifecycle processes, introducing improvements where necessary.
5. Scope, plan, and manage new projects, providing regular updates to management.
6. Utilize external consulting resources to support project goals as needed.
7. Work across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), from analysis and coding to testing and documentation.
8. Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems for reliability and efficiency.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, or Biology.
• Hands-on experience as a Software Engineer or Developer within the Life Sciences sector, such as a pharmaceutical or biotech company, CRO, or other R&D organization.
• Knowledge of relational databases (SQL) and ORM technologies (e.g., JPA2, Hibernate).
• Experience developing web applications using frameworks like React, Angular, Node.js, or Spring MVC.
• Familiarity with SDLC and test-driven development methodologies.
• Strong communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to stakeholders, including wet lab scientists.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities.
