Job description

Our client is a leading provider of testing services for the Government Covid-19 response, operating a laboratory based on the Alderley Edge site in Cheshire. The facility aims to process and test tens of thousands of samples per day and is expanding rapidly. They are seeking a Scientific Purchasing Lead to support the Procurement Manager on an approximate 6-month fixed-term contract, starting immediately and ending in February 2021.

The Role

As a Scientific Purchaser, you will support the Procurement Manager by overseeing projects related to ordering consumables, PPE, and other products across four key laboratory locations throughout the UK. You will ensure laboratories have the necessary consumables by liaising with team members at different sites and managing relationships with third-party suppliers, including organizing alternative consumables when needed.

Skills and Experience Needed

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience in the life sciences sector and a BSc, MSc, or PhD in a biological or scientific field (ESSENTIAL).
  • Procurement experience is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of consumables used in sample testing facilities, especially pipettes.
  • Understanding of automated liquid handling robotics is a plus.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and an approachable personality.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
