Job summary

GSK is seeking a Scientific Director for Infectious Disease in Stevenage, with future relocation to Cambridge by early 2029. You will lead multidisciplinary discovery and early development programs, focusing on large-molecule therapies and monoclonal antibody modalities, translating scientific insight into strategy and investment decisions across assets.

You will build and steer cross-functional teams, manage data for regulatory submissions, and ensure delivery within timelines and budgets,

Qualifications

• PhD/MD/MSc/BSc in a relevant scientific field with strong research background.
• Experience in monoclonal antibody discovery or development.
• Proven record leading multidisciplinary matrix teams and defining strategy.
• Experience using integrated evidence to support portfolio decisions.
• Independent decision-making with ability to move programmes forward quickly.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional teams to define and deliver infectious disease discovery and early development strategies.
• Ensure high-quality data packages for regulatory submissions, clinical protocols, patents, grants.
• Drive candidate progression by integrating evidence, risk, resources, budgets and timelines.
• Provide strategic and technical leadership; guide research direction and project quality.
• Develop robust project plans; manage risks, issues, dependencies and mitigations.
• Build relationships and communicate progress with internal partners, governance, regulators, and external experts.
• Ensure programmes comply with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements; pursue external collaborations.
• Contribute to group growth and potential supervision of lab-based scientists.
