Job summary

EMBL-EBI on the Wellcome Genome Campus in Cambridgeshire seeks a scientific developer in cheminformatics or bioinformatics to join the Open Targets Safety 2.0 project. You will work on knowledge extraction, data standardisation and open source code contributions to create a side‑effect resource from diverse documents.

You will build ML pipelines for extraction, map results to biomedical ontologies, and integrate workflows with EMBL-EBI and Open Targets platforms, collaborating with safety

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in cheminformatics, bioinformatics or another scientific discipline.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills, both presentations and verbal.
• Interest in contributing to a global resource for safe drugs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a drug side-effect resource as part of Chemical Biology Resources and Open Targets collaboration.
• Develop ML pipelines for extracting drug side effects from labels, trials, publications and other documents; map to ontologies.
• Integrate project workflows with EMBL-EBI and Open Targets infrastructures.
• Assist with data curation to prepare clean training sets.
• Collaborate with Open Targets partners to assess, prioritise, validate and refine the methods.
• Disseminate outcomes through presentations and publications.
