Job overview

Join NICE as a Scientific Adviser to evaluate Artificial Intelligence for transforming the work of NICE!

Do you have a passion for innovation and transformation? NICE is seeking an experienced Scientific Adviser to drive forward our organisational evolution by harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) for the core functions of NICE. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping NICE’s future, ensuring we maximise AI’s capabilities to enhance our ways of working, improve efficiencies, and support evidence-based decision-making.

In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that integrate AI into NICE’s processes, working collaboratively across teams to identify and capitalise on opportunities for transformation. The ideal candidate will have experience in the use of artificial intelligence in the context of evidence generation in healthcare settings, as well as the ability to run evaluations or pilots of artificial intelligence tools. If you thrive in a fast-paced, forward-thinking environment and are ready to shape the future of NICE, we would love to hear from you.

Role can be based in either our Manchester or London office.

Main duties of the job

There is a vacancy in the D&A team for a scientific adviser post, focused on developing NICE’s AI strategy in partnership with teams working internally to NICE and also external stakeholders. The Scientific Adviser’s role would work across a portfolio of projects, related to evaluating AI for use and appraisal by NICE. The post holder would be expected to lead, co-ordinate and provide expertise across different workstreams. The team adopts a flexible approach, meaning that the specific tasks assigned to the post-holders may change in response to business needs.

The Scientific Adviser may also cover a range of other activities, including:

  • Conducting evaluations, analysing data and disseminating findings in collaboration with partners in the UK and internationally.
  • Developing NICE responses to science policy issues. Typically, a policy response is needed when new research findings, or new policy decisions by government or regulators, mean that NICE’s policies or methods require reviewing and/or updating.
  • Working with colleagues across NICE to identify and prioritise areas where methodological research is needed.
  • Working with colleagues across NICE to encourage the implementation and adoption of research or evaluation findings in NICE’s methods and processes.
  • Developing applications for research funding in collaboration with partners in the UK and internationally.
  • Engaging with stakeholders and partner organisations.
Working for our organisation

The Science Evidence and Analytics (SEA) Directorate ensures NICE uses the best available evidence to support health and care decision makers. Within SEA, the Data and Analytics (D&A) Programme supports the entire organisation, providing leadership in real-world data and evidence to strengthen NICE’s guidance and products. The D&A team recently led the development of NICE’s Statement of Intent for artificial intelligence (AI), which outlines plans to: 1) guide technology developers on best practice for AI-based methods in evidence generation; 2) evaluate AI technologies for NHS use; and 3) explore AI tools to enhance NICE’s internal processes.

Our benefits include:

Generous NHS Pension – Secure your future with one of the most rewarding pension schemes in the UK.
Flexible Working – Enjoy a healthy work-life balance with options like remote working, compressed hours and flexible start/finish times.
Exclusive Discounts – Save on shopping, dining and more with a Blue Light Card.
Time to Recharge – Start with 27 days’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays.
Inclusive Staff Networks – Join supportive communities like Women in NICE, Race Equality Network, Disability Advocacy and more – we celebrate diversity.
Tailored Development – Grow your career with personalised learning and development opportunities.
