Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Science Technician for a Newham secondary school. The role supports Key Stages 3–4 and A-Level practicals with daily tasks in the lab, safety compliance, and stock management.

Immediate start, full-time, ongoing contract, and a competitive daily rate. You will work in a well-resourced science department, contributing to accurate experiments and confident delivery of lessons.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Science Technician in a secondary school or higher education setting is highly desirable.
• A strong scientific background (a degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Pharmacology, or a related discipline is advantageous).
• Good knowledge of lab safety standards, COSHH guidelines, and chemical preparation.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).

Responsibilities

• Preparing laboratory apparatus, chemical solutions, and equipment for daily practical lessons.
• Ensuring strict adherence to health and safety protocols, including COSHH and risk assessment procedures.
• Maintaining, calibrating, and cleaning laboratory equipment and keeping preparation rooms organised.
• Supporting teaching staff during practical class demonstrations when required.
• Managing departmental stock levels, chemical inventory, and ordering supplies.
