Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a capable Science Technician for a permanent position at an outstanding Ofsted-rated secondary school in Barnet. The role supports the Science Department by preparing equipment, setting up experiments and providing technical support to teachers.

You will manage lab stock, handle chemicals responsibly and carry out safety checks, working across the department with a focus on organisation and reliable delivery of practical resources for lessons.

Qualifications

• Experience as Science Technician or Laboratory Technician in an educational setting.
• Ability to handle chemicals and scientific materials with care and accuracy.
• Strong organisational and classroom communication skills.

Job description

Behind every successful practical Science lesson is a well-prepared laboratory. An Outstanding Ofsted-rated secondary school in Barnet is looking for a capable Science Technician to join its team on a permanent basis this October.

This is a hands-on position supporting the Science Department and ensuring teachers have the equipment, materials and practical resources they need. You’ll work across the department and will have plenty of variety throughout the school week.

What you'll be doing

Preparing apparatus and materials for upcoming lessons

Setting up practical experiments and demonstrations

Providing technical support to Science teaching staff

Looking after laboratory equipment and reporting faults

Managing chemicals and scientific materials appropriately

Keeping preparation areas and laboratories in good order

Monitoring and maintaining department stock

Assisting with practical activities during lessons

Completing relevant safety checks and maintaining records

Experience & skills

This role would suit a Science Technician, Laboratory Technician or someone with relevant scientific practical experience who is now looking to establish themselves within a school environment.

You’ll be someone who is naturally organised and takes a careful approach to your work. Being able to communicate well with teachers and students is also important, as you’ll be working closely with the wider Science team every day.
