Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support students during practical lessons and project work across all engineering areas, providing practical assistance in a safe and effective manner.
  • Prepare apparatus for practical lessons and demonstrations, supply equipment, dismantle, and return to store to keep all equipment in perfect working order.
  • Ensure safe treatment and disposal of used materials, including hazardous substances, and respond to hazards.
  • Provide technical guidance to students in practical lessons, adhering to manufacturer instructions and health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and routine maintenance of areas and apparatus, carrying out repairs as needed to meet health and safety standards.
  • Evaluate new workshop lessons, identify potential problems, and suggest improvements to support curriculum and staff.
  • Maintain a computer database for the department, request new stock, and ensure proper storage and labeling for reporting and management.
  • Conduct health and safety checks, ensuring equipment safety and compliance with policies and legislation.
  • Follow the College's health & safety policies, report hazards, and rectify unsafe working conditions.
  • Work flexibly within the faculty team to support curriculum delivery.
  • Embed safeguarding practices into your role as part of the college's shared responsibility.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Handle queries professionally and calmly.
  • Understand and apply procedures related to equipment and health & safety.
  • Stay updated on current procedures through professional development.
  • Manage general maintenance queries appropriately.
  • Work independently and follow instructions when necessary.
  • Know when to escalate issues to line management.
  • Write and maintain risk assessments for technician activities.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably required.

Job Requirements:

  • A qualification in a Science subject at least A Level or equivalent.
