Teaching Personnel are working closely with a secondary school in Fareham who are looking to appoint a committed and proactive Science Technician to join their thriving Science Department on a term-time only basis from June 2025. This is a 30-hour per week role, worked over 4 days, offering a great opportunity for work-life balance while being part of a supportive and engaging school environment.
The role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a practical, hands-on role and is interested in supporting science education. A good understanding of science and laboratory work is an advantage, but full training will be provided.
The Science Department is large and well-resourced, comprising nine specialist laboratories spread across three floors in two separate buildings. The role requires regular movement between these rooms, so the successful candidate should be comfortable with lifting, carrying equipment, and using stairs as part of their daily duties.
Prepare and deliver materials and equipment for science practicals across biology, chemistry, and physics.
Support teachers during practical lessons where necessary, ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
Clean and clear away equipment following lessons, maintaining a high standard of laboratory hygiene and organisation.
Monitor and maintain stock levels of equipment and chemicals; order supplies as needed.
Ensure safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and equipment in line with health and safety regulations (COSHH).
Maintain and carry out regular checks on equipment and safety apparatus.
Keep accurate records of inventory and ensure resources are ready for use.
Support live specimen or plant care, where applicable.
Assist with the development and maintenance of risk assessments and safety documentation.
Work collaboratively with science staff to ensure practical lessons run smoothly and efficiently.
Have an interest in science and practical work (prior lab or technician experience is a plus, but not essential).
Be able to follow procedures and guidelines, especially related to health and safety.
Have good organisational skills and be able to work efficiently and independently.
