Job summary

PK Education are recruiting a Science Technician for a secondary school in Northumberland from September 2026. The role supports the Science department, ensuring safe and effective delivery of practical activities.

The ideal candidate will be organised, reliable and able to work independently, with a good understanding of laboratory health and safety procedures. An Enhanced DBS (Update Service) is preferred or willingness to obtain one through PK Education.

Qualifications

• Experience in a science technician, laboratory, or similar role is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety procedures in a lab.

• Prepare and set up equipment, chemicals and resources for practical Science lessons.

• Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and organising resources.
• Support day-to-day running of the Science department.

We are looking for an organised, practical and reliable individual to support a busy Science department and help ensure lessons and practical activities run safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing and setting up equipment, chemicals and resources for practical Science lessons.
• Supporting teachers and students during practical activities.
• Maintaining laboratories, equipment and Science resources.
• Ensuring appropriate health and safety procedures are followed.
• Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering and organisation of resources.
• Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the Science department.

Requirements

• Previous experience in a Science Technician, laboratory or similar practical role is desirable.
• Good understanding of laboratory health and safety procedures.
• Organised, reliable and able to work independently.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with staff and students.
• Relevant Science or laboratory qualifications/experience would be advantageous.
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is preferred, or you must be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS through PK Education.
