ROLE SUMMARY:

Join our team at Wetherby Preparatory School, an all-boys, well established, prestigious prep school in central London, as a Prep School Science Technician. This full-time role offers the opportunity to support our vibrant science department and inspire the scientists of tomorrow.

As a Science Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting our science teachers by preparing and maintaining laboratory resources and assisting in practical lessons. You will ensure the smooth running of the laboratory while adhering to health and safety regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare, set up and safely clear away and dispose of equipment and chemicals for science lessons, as per the teacher's instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the laboratory.
  • Write and update risk assessments for practical activities carried out on site, keeping up to date with the CLEAPSS guidelines.
  • Maintain stocks and ensure safe storage of laboratory equipment and chemicals.
  • Assist teachers and students during practical science activities and experiments, ensuring their safety and enhance their access to learning in the science department.
  • Support the development of engaging and educational outreach e.g. science displays, external speakers, workshops, trips.
  • Assist the Head of Department with the organisation of internal events e.g. open morning and taster days.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Qualifications and Training:

  • A relevant qualification in science or laboratory work.
  • Training in laboratory safety and procedures is desirable.

Experience:

  • Experience working in a laboratory or educational setting.
  • Previous experience in a school environment is advantageous.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and technology.

Personal Qualities:

  • Enthusiasm for science and education.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to tasks.
