Job description
Overview

St Peter's is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and proactive Science Technician to join our friendly Science Department. Working term-time only (39 weeks per year) at 21 hours per week. Flexibility on hours and days worked will be considered for the right applicant. To start as soon as possible. The Science Technicians provide technical and administrative support for the teaching staff in the department. You will prepare and set out equipment to support the teaching staff in undertaking demonstrations and experiments for practical lessons. You will manage the safe acquisition, storage and disposal of equipment and chemicals used in the delivery of the science curriculum.

St Peter's Catholic School, part of the Xavier Catholic Education Trust, is an extremely successful school and sixth form set in attractive grounds on the outskirts of Guildford, with onsite parking. Responsibilities

Requirements / Qualifications
  • A good level of education including GCSE Science, Maths and English.
  • A proactive approach in anticipating problems, planning and prioritising tasks within specific deadlines.
  • The ability to work and communicate effectively with staff and students.
  • The ability to work calmly under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.
  • The ability to follow strict Health and Safety regulations with knowledge of Control Substances Hazardous to Health.
  • An understanding of the importance of safeguarding within a school environment.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and learn from experienced colleagues. A knowledge of scientific experiments is not necessary; a familiarity with science equipment is helpful but not essential.

Salary: Surrey Pay Scale PS5/PS6 - £27,634 to £32,867 FTE. 21 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. Actual salary: £13,867 to £16,493.
