Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organised, enthusiastic, and adaptable Science Technician to join our dedicated team of technicians. This role will support all three Sciences but a particular interest or specialism in Chemistry would be highly desirable.
As a key member of our technical team, you will play a central role in supporting practical Science education across the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and set up equipment and materials for practical lessons and demonstrations
- Safely handle, store, and dispose of chemicals in line with Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines
- Support lesson preparation including biological reagents, solutions, and glassware.
- Assist in risk assessments and promote safe working practices
- Maintain and repair laboratory equipment and manage audiovisual resources
- Pilot and develop new experimental methodologies and promote innovative ideas at KS3
- Provide in-class support during practical sessions and help with displays and open mornings
- Purchase perishable items for experiments as needed
Person Specification
- A degree in a science-related field
- GCSEs in English and Maths
- Experience in a technical support role within a scientific or educational setting
- Strong awareness of health and safety practices
- Familiarity with specialist lab equipment
- Excellent communication, organisation, and teamwork skills
- Calm, methodical, and able to work under pressure
Desirable
- NVQ Level 2 in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities or equivalent
- CLEAPSS Technician Skills Certificate
- Qualified First Aider or willingness to train
Hours
This is a part-time position, working up to 23 hours per week. Working pattern can be flexible, taking into account the needs of the department.
Fixed-term contract for the Autumn term.
Annual salary equates to between £12,665.20 - £14,185.02, depending on skills and experience. Actual salary will be pro rata based on weeks worked.
