Location: Totnes, Devon
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2025 (or earlier by negotiation)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Are you passionate about making a difference through science education? Our client, a nurturing and inclusive special school based in the beautiful countryside of Totnes, is seeking a compassionate, creative, and enthusiastic Science Teacher to join their dedicated team.

This is a unique opportunity to inspire young people with additional needs and help them engage with the world through the lens of science - no QTS is required, just strong subject knowledge and a commitment to inclusive education.

Our client is a well-established and highly regarded special school that caters for pupils with a range of additional needs including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), SEMH, and complex learning difficulties. Their approach is rooted in empathy, creativity, and a belief in the potential of every learner. The school provides a therapeutic and nurturing environment where pupils are supported to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

As the Science Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering accessible, engaging, and practical science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4. You'll work closely with a multidisciplinary team including therapists, SEN specialists, and support staff to ensure pupils' individual needs are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support pupils' individual needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong subject knowledge in science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics - or a specialism in one area).
  • Passion for working with young people with additional needs.
  • Adaptable, patient, and creative teaching approach.
  • Experience in SEN/SEMH settings (desirable but not essential).
  • Team player, ready to collaborate closely with staff and families.
  • Hold QTS or be unqualified but with relevant experience and/or a degree in a science-related field.

Benefits:

  • A supportive and welcoming team environment.
  • Extensive training and CPD opportunities, including pathways into teaching for unqualified staff.
  • A chance to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of young people.
  • A beautiful rural location with access to nature-based learning.
  • Opportunities for career development within a forward-thinking SEN provision.

This role would suit someone with a passion for inclusive education who is ready to embrace the rewards and challenges of teaching in a SEN environment.
