Science or DT Technician (Gap Year Students) - John Hampden Grammar School

Location: High Wycombe

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has just finished their A levels and is looking to build skills and experience in a paid role prior to starting the next stage of their education or employment.

Term time only

Salary Type: Bucks pay

Salary details: £23,996 to £24,950 FTE (actual salary pro rata salary £20,350 to £21,159 per annum)

Contract type: One Year Fixed Term Contract from September 2025 to July 2026

Hours: 37 hours per week - term time only plus staff INSET days (39 weeks per year)

At JHGS, we recognise and value the professional and technical expertise that our Technicians bring to the school. From Science, to Design, Food Technology and PE, our technicians play a crucial role in providing essential services which directly impact the learning environment in our school.

The technicians prepare practical equipment and materials for lessons as required by the teacher prior to lessons.They assist with the preparation of apparatus and materials and setting up equipment for use in practicals. They support the department by ensuring availability of suitable materials and equipment.

About you

Ideally, the successful DT technician will have completed A level Design Technology so you are familiar with DT workshops, but this isn’t essential. You may have developed the skills to work across a variety of disciplines e.g. woodwork, metal, food, ICT, CAD/CAM and Food Tech and have some knowledge of health and safety practices. The successful Science technician will have an A level in a Science subject and will work as part of a team providing technical support to Science classes in Key Stage 3 and 4 and to help with the specialist support for Key Stage 5 Science, with an emphasis on support for Chemistry. Training will be provided for the successful candidates in both Technician roles
