Job summary

Bradford College seeks a motivated Chemistry Lecturer to deliver high quality teaching within our Science and Digital department. You will engage students in state-of-the-art classrooms and support progression to higher education or employment.

The role involves developing curriculum, supporting learners, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure outstanding learning experiences, equity, diversity and inclusion embedded in practice.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level in Chemistry.
  • Teaching qualification or working towards one.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and reflective practice.
  • GCSE maths and English level 2 or higher, or ability to demonstrate level 2 by interview.
  • Experience delivering FE with assessments is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Teach on courses as directed by the Head of Department/School.
  • Motivate students and develop confidence and capability.
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues and parents/carers.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and cross-college initiatives.
  • Contribute to enrolment, induction, monitoring and initial assessments.
  • Plan learning activities and supervise placements and offsite activities.

Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Chemistry Lecturer to join our dedicated Science and Digital department. Working in state-of-the-art Science classrooms, the successful applicant will deliver outstanding teaching and learning to inspire, motivate and develop our student's knowledge and skills.

Through exceptional classroom, employer linked and enrichment delivery, the successful candidate will raise aspirations, ensuring students have the opportunity to either progress to Higher Education or enter employment.

Responsibilities Include
  • To teach on courses specified by the Head of Department/Head of School.
  • To motivate and build self-esteem and self-worth/self-belief, developing a 'can do 'attitude with students.
  • To communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
  • To communicate effectively with parents and carers at appropriate times, conveying relevant information about attainment, objectives and progress.
  • To participate in open events and parents/student consultation evenings as appropriate.
  • To participate actively in the development of curriculum; and where appropriate in cross College curriculum development.
  • To participate actively in the enrolment, induction, monitoring, profiling and initial assessment of students or trainees.
  • To devise individual learning plans and provide support for learners in line with the requirements of the course.
  • To devise Plans of Learning for the taught curriculum.
  • To be responsible for the supervision and management of students on placements and offsite visits and activities where appropriate.
  • To act as academic and pastoral tutor to assigned students.

Education & Training
  • Educated to Degree (or equivalent) standard in Chemistry.
  • A recognised teaching qualification or working towards one.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and the ability to reflect on teaching practice and personal performance
  • GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
Experience
  • Proven experience and evidence of successful teaching.
  • Experience of being a pastoral/form tutor (16-19)
  • Academic or industrial or commercial experience in an area relevant to the programmes.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Teams, interactive whiteboards, Moodle and using digital resources to enhance learning and teaching.
  • Experience of delivering FE including assessment with awarding organisations
