Job summary

Sharnbrook Academy is seeking a highly organised Science Technician to support the delivery of practical science education across the Science Department. This role involves preparing materials, maintaining equipment and ensuring safety in the lab.

You will manage stock, assist with textbooks and provide cover resources for staff as needed, with duties including administrative tasks and regular cleaning of prep areas.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and provide all materials, resources and practical equipment required for lessons as ordered by the teaching staff.
• Set up equipment as requested; weekly prep sheets with Thursday deadline for the following week.
• Maintain equipment, glassware and solutions per safety policy; label chemicals and provide distilled water.
• Maintain correct stock levels for department resources.
• Ensure Health and Safety regulations and Codes of Practice are followed; report to Curriculum Lead.
• Regularly check department equipment and facilities; report faults to site team and Curriculum Lead.
• Maintain textbooks and provide textbooks in classrooms when requested by staff.
• Undertake stock-taking of stationery, chemicals, glassware, apparatus and textbooks; complete order sheets.
• Undertake photocopying as requested by teaching staff.
• Provide support for staff covering lessons with cover work and materials.
• Complete administrative tasks (data inputting, filing) as required by staff.
• Clean practical and preparation areas regularly.
• Undertake training as required by the role.
