Science Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Stockport

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Science Graduate Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ secondary school in Stockport. This is a full-time position starting immediately and continuing until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role based on performance.

Role Overview

This role is ideal for a recent science graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in a school environment. It is particularly suited for individuals considering a future career in teaching, educational support, or STEM outreach.

The successful candidate will work alongside science teachers and the school’s support staff to assist students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them develop their understanding of biology, chemistry, and physics. The role involves both academic and pastoral support, ensuring students build confidence and engagement in science subjects.

Key Responsibilities:

Providing one-to-one and small group support to students who require additional help in science.

Assisting teachers in planning and delivering engaging practical and theoretical science lessons.

Supporting students in developing scientific inquiry, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Helping students with GCSE exam preparation, including revision strategies and coursework support.

Encouraging students to develop a strong interest in STEM subjects.

Supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) by adapting learning materials and providing targeted assistance.

Helping to prepare lab equipment, experiments, and lesson resources to support practical learning.

Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teachers to help tailor lesson plans effectively.

Assisting with classroom management to create a focused and productive learning environment.

Candidate Requirements:

A degree in a science-related subject (biology, chemistry, physics, or similar) (2:2 or above preferred).

A passion for science education and student development.

Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

A patient, proactive, and adaptable approach to working with students of varying abilities.

The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a school setting.

Previous experience working with young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, classroom support) is desirable but not essential.

Salary & Benefits:

Weekly pay between £419.25 - £500, depending on experience and responsibilities.
