Are you a recent Science Graduate considering a career in teaching Are you looking to gain practical school-based experience before starting your teacher training

A highly-regarded secondary school in West London is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Science Graduate to join the team as an Academic Support Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity to support students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 within the Science Department gaining invaluable experience in a structured and supportive school environment.

Working closely with subject teachers the Head of Department and pastoral staff you will assist in delivering tailored academic interventions including 1:1 and small group sessions designed to raise attainment deepen scientific understanding and build confidence in core topics.

This role is ideally suited to a Science Graduate who is planning to begin a PGCE or other teacher training programme in 2025.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic support to students across KS3 and KS4 in Biology Chemistry and/or Physics

  • Deliver focused 1:1 and small group tuition sessions to reinforce scientific knowledge and exam readiness

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to identify learning gaps and adapt support accordingly

  • Assist with lesson preparation resources and progress monitoring

  • Contribute to a positive and aspirational learning environment

Candidate Profile:
  • A recent Science graduate (Biology Chemistry or Physics) from a leading university

  • Passionate about education and eager to pursue a career in teaching

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly

  • Reliable proactive and able to work as part of a collaborative team

  • Prior experience supporting young people (e.g. tutoring mentoring volunteering) is advantageous
