Job Title: Science Cover Supervisor

The Role:

As a Science Cover Supervisor, your primary responsibility will be to manage and supervise classes in the absence of the regular teacher. You will deliver pre-prepared lesson materials and ensure students remain engaged and on task throughout the lesson.

Key responsibilities:

Supervising whole-class lessons across various year groups, with a particular focus on science subjects.

Delivering pre-set lesson materials, ensuring students follow instructions and complete assigned tasks.

Managing classroom behaviour in accordance with the school’s policies and ensuring a positive learning environment.

Providing support to students during lessons, helping them understand scientific concepts and tasks.

Covering lessons in other subjects where required.

Reporting student progress, engagement, and behaviour to teaching staff.

Assisting with science-focused interventions or revision sessions as directed by the science department.

Supporting practical science lessons where appropriate by helping to manage resources and maintain safety standards.

Qualifications and Skills:

Holds a degree in a science-related subject (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field).

Is enthusiastic about working with young people and supporting their education.

Has strong communication and leadership skills, with the confidence to manage a classroom setting.

Can adapt to different subjects and year groups when required.

Has prior experience working with young people in an educational or mentoring capacity (desirable but not essential).

Is organised, proactive, and capable of working independently.

Understands safeguarding practices (training will be provided if necessary).
