Job summary

West Sussex County Council is seeking a dedicated pupil transport driver to deliver safe, reliable journeys for children and young people across multiple locations. The role involves driving 4-16 seat vehicles, following schedules, and maintaining a professional, passenger-focused approach.

The position offers term-time hours with a per-hour rate of £13.28–£13.48 and an annualised equivalent around £25,614–£26,016.

Qualifications

• Ability to drive safely and considerately in accordance with the Highway Code regulations.
• Ability to communicate successfully with colleagues and passengers, build trusting relationships and exercising persuasive skills.
• Ability to resolve straightforward problems.
• Basic numeracy and literacy skills gained through education or through relevant experience.
• Valid UK driving licence.
• Driving licence category D1 or PCV is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Drive allocated 4-16 seat vehicles safely to and from locations.
• Follow schedules to meet routes and deadlines.
• Communicate effectively with passengers and colleagues.
• Maintain professionalism and safety in all interactions.
• Complete required courses listed in the role.
• Support children and young people transport services with high service levels.
