The role
Newcastle High School for Girls is seeking to appoint a reliable, skilled, and enthusiastic School Technician to support practical teaching across a variety of departments, including Art, Dance, Drama, Food Technology, Music, Science, Sport, and Textiles.
This is a varied and engaging role, ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, thrives in a busy environment, and wants to be part of a friendly, collaborative team. Reporting to the Senior Science Technician and H&S Coordinator, and alongside a designated Science Technician, you will be responsible for preparing, maintaining and storing equipment and materials, supporting staff and pupils during practical lessons across a number of disciplines in our Senior School, and ensuring that specialist teaching areas are clean, safe and well-organised and that equipment and inventories are well managed.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Preparing, setting up, testing and clearing away equipment and materials for practical lessons and activities.
- Assisting teachers and pupils in lessons, including providing demonstrations and ensuring safe use of tools and materials.
- Carrying out routine checks and maintenance on a wide range of departmental equipment, such as sewing machines, ovens, musical instruments, PE and AV equipment.
- Managing stock levels and supporting ordering and inventory processes.
- Cleaning workspaces and ensuring safe disposal of waste materials.
- Assisting in the creation of displays and learning resources.
- Supporting school events, exhibitions, performances and open days.
